RMT + Acu Roundtable

Are you an RMT who has acupuncture training? Unsure of how to integrate this skill into your existing practice? Don't feel like you're using your acu training as well as you could be? Fear not, we've assembled a team of RMT experts to answer all your questions and provide guidance for your practice! 

We know massage therapy is a bit of a special case in the allied health world - modalities like acupuncture are a bit tricker to integrate into a massage therapy practice than other professions. We get a LOT of questions from the RMTs that we work with on this topic - things like:

- how do I get my patients to be open to trying acu?

- do I charge extra for adding acu to a massage?

- how do I manage my time? Do I make my appointments longer to accomodate acupuncutre?

- can I still do massage while I have needles in?

- how can I balance doing a proper assessment and re-assessment with giving patients maximum hands-on time?

Kristen Pawlick

Kristen Pawlick is a Certified Athletic Therapist, Registered Massage Therapist and also certified in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture. She has been practicing in Hamilton and Oakville since 2011. In addition to providing manual therapy, Kristen is an instructor with the McMaster Contemporary Medical Acupuncture program and with Neurofunctional Acupuncture Seminars based out of New York City. Kristen was also an Examiner with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and the Head Athletic Therapist for CheerForce WolfPack in Oakville. Kristen is an active associate of Global Healthworks Foundation; a not-for-profit foundation that provides free healthcare to underserved Indigenous communities in rural Guatemala. In her spare time, Kristen is an avid traveller and yoga enthusiast.

Ilana Horowitz

Ilana Horowitz is an RMT and provider of contemporary medical / neurofunctional acupuncture  and Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST).  She has advanced education in nervous system anatomy and treatment, including the McMaster University Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Program; additional training in acupuncture for headaches, facial, and jaw/TMJ pain; and in the Dermoneuromodulation approach. She graduated from Sutherland-Chan School of Massage Therapy at the top of her class and now works there as an instructor, teaching about the nervous system.
