ABOUT PHYSIO MENTORS
Hi, We're Julia & Joelle!
We met in 2012 at the McMaster Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Program and have been practicing physiotherapy for 12+ years.
When we started teaching healthcare practitioners, we quickly realized two things:
(1) there is a huge gap between skills that are needed to practice effectively versus what is actually taught in school and...
(2) the Neurofunctional Approach could provide a way to break out of the “standard” approach that practitioners are taught.
After years of honing our program and providing mentorship, we founded Physio Mentors in 2017 to bridge the gap between new graduates and practitioners of physiotherapy by creating a like-minded community that supports the growth of one another, built around the neurofunctional model of physiotherapy.
Julia's academic journey began at the University of Western Ontario, where she graduated with an Honours Specialization in Kinesiology and a minor in Rehabilitation Science. Her lifelong involvement in athletics and interest in healthcare then led her to study physiotherapy at McMaster University. Julia is currently an instructor with the McMaster Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Program, Dr Mike Prebeg's Foundations in Functional Assessment course, and Dr Dan Wunderlich's Neurofunctional Acupuncture course. She is also an Adjunct Lecturer with the University of Toronto Physical Therapy Program, and editor of the Canadian Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Association's newsletter. What we do
We're on a mission to empower practitioners to reach their full potential.
We created the The Mentorship to bridge the gap between students and professionals. Our 12-month program combines mentorship, like-minded community and hands-on experience to foster a supportive learning environment for our students.
Why we do it
We know how overwhelming it is to be a new practitioner. Working in your practice without the hand-on experience, guidance and support you need to reach your full potential feels isolating and can affect your confidence as a practitioner.
After a decade of working with students and other healthcare practitioners, we've seen the impact that mentorship has on building confident, in-demand and purposeful practitioners. We wanted to create a program that not only allows students to connect in a supportive, like-minded community, but also receive the hands-on mentorship and training they need to reach their full potential.
